As I remember it...

My wife and I saw approximately this recital at approximately this time in Salt Lake City in Abravanel Hall. It was a riveting evening from the Asian stage decoration to the playing itself to the charisma this guy exudes. As live recitals go his playing left nothing to be desired...but when he is doing it he certainly holds your attention...from the softest pianissimos to the loudest fortissimos he has a terrific dynamic range which he uses with variations in tempo (some written...some interpreted) to make it seem very much like you're getting more than your money's worth for the evening. I don't know whether he is a pianistic P. T. Barnum or a new incarnation of Louis Moureaux Gottschalk...but the guy has chops.
