This one is interesting. He broke a lot of traditions here. He dropped on an even year, he didn’t do a part one/part two on track ten, and he forgot about s drums on most of the songs. But hey, it’s pretty good. I like most of the songs (my least favorite one being “Tomorrow”), and the production is beautiful, like most Tyler albums. It reminds me of a little bit of every Tyler album.
“Rah Tah Tah” and “Thought I Was Dead” sounded like Cherry Bomb. Both are some of my favorite songs on the album. All I’m thinking about right now is “Though I Was Dead”. Definitely wouldn’t have CHROMAKOPIA without this one 👍
“Noid” and “I Hope You Find Your Way Home” sounded similar to the songs on Wolf. These two sound groovy and classic, almost like they came straight out of the mid-70s psychedelic rock era. Noid is my favorite song on the album!
“Hey Jane” and “I Killed You” sound strikingly similar to Goblin. They’re muffled and eerie, and both are consistent with the themes associated with Goblin. Killing and having sex. Yikes 😬
And then there’s the later Tyler sounding stuff. “Take Your Mask Off”, and “Balloon” sound like some of the songs off Flower Boy/IGOR era. “Take Your Mask Off”’s production (and theme, and lyrics, and melodies) are very similar to Flower Boy. While “Balloon” is odd to to say the least, and sound like the Flower Boy throwaways released from
2018-2019.
CHROMAKOPIA is and overall 67% in my opinion. And yes, this is the first Tyler album I’m giving below a 75%, but I just don’t think I’m ready for it yet. It’s still pretty good, and I can’t wait to see how the tour goes. But yeah.
