I was amazed the first time I heard trumpeter David Longoria play! He has a command of his instrument I haven't heard since I listened to Freddy Hubbard, Al Hirt, Rafael Mendez. On A Castle In Spain Longoria exhibits his awesomeness and interacts with the guitarist who made Nuveau Flamence famous- Ottmar Liebert. The result is pure pleasure to listen to. Longoria wrote this song when he was 17 and featured it on his very first album (in the vinyl days-- I got mine on eBay) and re-recorded it for the Baila! cd expected to be released in early 2012. I have seen him perform in concerts 3 times and wold gladly travel to see and hear him again. This song is beautiful and I would expect many high school and college trumpet players are getting quite a workout trying to learn to play it as David does here.
