I live how this album never gets old. 7 years later and it's still on the list with "hot albums" that are more recent, and not as good.

The xx are just so amazing, they have this unique kind of sound and then all their songs are so calm and peaceful but super intense at the same time, like you can transfer yourself to this bubble and I highly appreciate bands that can do that with their music.

  • Stunning debut!

The xx came out in 2009 as an minimalistic act with a unique sound. Their eponymous debut album shows a musical palette reaching a rare richness. Going from Jamie xx’s millimeter beats to Romy and Oliver's discreet yet soulful vocals, the recognizable guitar chimes, the band couldn’t exploit their talent in a better way. Every indie lover must own this record! For those who heard of the band through « Intro »: listen to the whole album because it’s entirely worth it. Every song in the album is great, nothing's disposable or forgettable. Classic album that outlines the diversity of indie rock/pop, a genre that is still evolving for better.
  • Interesting album, but nothing new

The xx, while indeed having quite a variety of influences, often come close to replicating the sound of the post-punk band Young Marble Giants. Compare any of the xx's more indie flavored songs to YMG's "Music for Evenings" or "Brand New Life" and you'll see what I mean. But nevertheless, this remains a fairly decent collection of tunes.
