  • A sanctuary.

I listen to this album when I feel broken.... and then everything just melts away. This album takes the feeling I get from Light Through the Veins and stretches it out. It has become my happy place.

I have been listening to electronic music since I was 13 (Carlos/SOB). My GOAT is bt's This Binary Universe and ISAETSAYAI. Other favs Kirk DiGiorgio, Ott, Bletech, Kilowatts, etc.. I have little love of full-on beatless ambient. With that out of the way: The first time I heard Pink Floyd's epic "Echoes" I was so deep into some blotter paper acid that I had lost language. Regardless of that imprint - Echoes is and has been for 40 years an epic LSD experience set to music. And then came Jon Hopkins. 1 minute into track 1 I knew. I used to wonder if Hopkins was overrated. Nope. Album of the year. 2021

I have to admit. When I found out this was going to be an ambient project, I was a little disappointed. Jon’s last album was so spectacular, and his drum programming is easily some of the best out there. I was afraid this may be more of a curiosity, rather than the next “chapter” in Jon Hopkins evolution. I was wrong to assume. This record is absolutely gorgeous. It puts Hopkins up there with ambient gods like Burial, or The Caretaker. It happens that I’m undergoing psychedelic therapy, and it is perfect for that, but it’s also a beautiful album to wake up to, fall asleep to, meditate to, or talk a long walk with. Don’t miss out on this one.
