  • An r&b necessity

This should be considered one of the great live albums of all time. It's every bit as good as "Waiting for Columbus." The album is full of hard core rhythm & blues greats who know how to perform and grab an audience. The playing is top notch, the performances inspired and the sound quality superb. Even the original vinyl sounded superior to most other recordings from the early to mid 70's. You can see some of the performances in the movie "Play Misty for Me," in the scene where the Clint Eastwood character goes to the 1970 Monterey Jazz Festival. These people are playing in the background. Shuggie Otis was 16 at the time and was still developing as a blues guitarist, but he does his father proud on a couple of the songs. Big Joe Turner, Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson and Little Esther Phillips stand out, as do all the musicians. Every blues/rhythm & blues fans needs this.
