Donny Hathaway is the greatest soul singer period. No one comes close. This man is in a class by himself.

This brother is in a class all by himself. His melodious voice is only surpassed by his genius on piano. I miss him greatly.

Can you imagine contemporary soul without Donny Hathaway? I can't. Although he is gone too soon thank heaven he was able to share his God given gift and we have the technology to preserve it. His voice and brutal honest are in my opinion a precious gift from God and a rare and irreplaceable conduit between heaven and earth. A universal musical force that transcends sufficient description and/or categorization.

DONNY needs a title...PRINCE OF SOUL! One of the greatest voices of all times..Most of us will agree on that! All 14 selections on this live recording will BLOW YOU AWAY! Someday We'll Be Free, You Got a Friend, He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother, are timeless. However, his unique spin on Stevie Wonder's Superwoman and the Beatles's Yesterday...are INCREDIBLE.
Live recordings....are definitely a think of the past! For male singers...Donny sets the standard!

Donny Hathaway Live (circa 1971)

I sure do wish you'd feature the 1971 Donny Hathaway Live album on iTunes. Side 1 was live in LA; side 2 was in New York, I believe. It features magnificent takes on John Lennon's "Jealous Guy" and an iconic version of Marvin Gaye's "What's Goin' On." It's the greatest live R&B album, by the greatest R&B vocalist. And just when you think you've been wowed enough by Hathaway--along comes comes the greatest recorded live R&B bass solo featuring Willie Weeks (later with the Doobie Brothers and many others) on "Everything Is Everything." Place the 1971 Donny Hathaway Live album on your CD shelve right beside Marvin Gaye's "What's Goin' On" album. Hathaway is THAT great!
You gotta have it

If you are into soul music, ballads, just plaiin ole' music, lyrics, and the best voice of the 20th century. Then you gotta have this CD
He's gone but never ever forgotten.
We won't see him in concert again because the good lord needed him back in the throne room of heaven. He's there
singing praises to the creator. So until we all get there we at least have this 1972 concert recorded in LA.
