Mandy was one of the greatest love ballads of the 70s. Barry Manilow is part of many of my 70s memories.

This Greatest Hits cd along with volumes 2 and 3 were reconfigured from his first and second hits albums released earlier in his career to create a more comprehensive collection and to take advantage of the remastering process. For 1989 this hits collection is well mastered and using three discs with a capacity to hold 75 plus minutes of material gave room to include unreleased songs, though not on this first disc. This three disc set was completed at the same time and marketed to fans who would buy all three discs to own the essential Barry. Four albums were skipped from this collection, 1984's "2 A.M. Paradise Cafe," 1985's "Manilow" because it was recorded for then seperate label RCA, 1987's "Swing Street" and 1989's "Barry Manilow." Until the "Essential Collection" was released this was the only source for "Some Kind Of Friend" culled from Barry's "Here Comes The Night."
