Reviews

  • Still a great album

if this came out as a new release today, it would definitely still get 5-star reviews because it's timeless to me. it captures the aura of late 70's/ early 80's synthwave while still being current. Also "running up that hill" is a great Kate Bush cover!

Pretty sad when the highest rated song is a cover of a Kate Bush classic. Placebo's cover is better.

Definitely took a while for it to open up, but Johnny Jewel and Co. have done an incredible job in updating classic Italo disco to create something far more potent than I think anyone ever expected from the genre; a fascinatingly dark and seductive work whose only light comes from fleeting streetlights and flickering neon signs. I'm also about 247% sure that this album was the direct inspiration for the cinematography and overall tone of Nicolas Winding Refn's masterful film, "Drive" ("Night Drive"'s epic fifteen-minute centerpiece "Tick of the Clock" was used in its opening title sequence).

As the title suggests, this album really should be listened to in its entirety on a lonely drive through the city at night with the music turned up loud and the streetlights floating by like fireflies.
