I try to listen to artists/band's albums in chronological order but a coworker gave me this and as someone who was born in 2000 and missed out on being alive during art, this album was perfect. One of my favorite albums from the 70s!

Stars can't do this one justice. American Beauty is a fountainhead for anyone wanting to enjoy the Grateful Dead. I'd venture to say it is in every Dead fan's collection, which, over time becomes a long series of live music released by the Dead via their archives, bootlegs, etc.
While most Dead fans spend about 99% of their time listening to live shows, Like an old friend, you return to to American Beauty. The Dead got a lot albums right, but this one is a masterpieces of American music.
You would be hard pressed to find a better whole album they produced than American Beauty. This is an album you don't buy bits and pieces of, makes me sad to think anyone would even consider doing that.
Give it a few listens in total, and it will grow on you; this album in particular will give you an uplifting vibe that will forever enrich your life and regenerate your spirit. I am thankful I came across it early.
