I so do not understand people that dis this album. It's got great songs on it...so what if the E Street Band wasn't present? Stand out songs are Soul Driver, With Every Wish, Man's Job, The Long Goodbye, and the title song. This is one of my favorite Springsteen albums...and I love his classics too.

TotoIV.Isolation. Fahrenheit. My first album was b-USA loved it.then tunnel of love grew on me.when Bruce came off the road in 89 he took a risk he threw some pop/rock into his music.
He got a lot bad reviews but I think human touch ranks up there.brilliant song writing the title track.gloria eyes is a catchy little tune.his acoustic songs always great.overall I like 7 songs off the album

Well, it's obvious that Bruce Springsteen's music had gone a little poppy after Born In The USA and this album absolutely cannot be compared to Born To Run or the River, but the album is good in it's own. Its honestly better that a lot of other music in the 90's.

I'm a huge Springsteen fan, but have to admit that this isn't one of his finer albums. It does have some good songs like "Human Touch", but it lacks. The 90s were a rough time for Bruce, musically. Go buy "The Wild, the Innocent, and the E Street Shuffle." That doesn't disappoint.
I never play this. Does anyone?

For years, this has been Springsteen's low point. I'm beginning to think, though, that "Workin' On a Dream" may be just slightly worse.

A mixed bag of some great songs and some horrible ones. Not Bruce's best, but the title track, Soul Driver, Gloria's Eyes, Real World and I Wish I Were Blind are worth buying. Man's Job, The Long Goodbye and especially Real Man are pretty bad. The album Lucky Town recorded around the same time is much better.

I have to say that I love this album. It has an unmistakable '80s tinge to it, which I can't complain about. I'm sure it got a lot of slack (as the review above might indicate) for not being particularly deep or astounding. But it proves the Springsteen is capable of mixing his music up and for being different. My personal favorite tracks are the title track, 57 Channels-- which has a very smooth groove, and Gloria's Eyes. I can't really say this is a deep album, so if you're looking for something that'll rip your heart out or make you think, then this probably isn't for you. But as far as good music goes, this is right up there.
