Born Again

This album is very underrated. I definitely would recommend purchasing it. It has heavy hitting vocals and metal sounds that are also very mysterious. The album blends well musically, but not so much lyrical meaning wise, but that doesn’t really mean much when you have an album full of hits. It may take a couple of listens to get used to the different than normal Sabbath sounds. The album also never gets tired because of its superior metal charm.

This album is a masterpiece. Every song is great. Sure the production is meh, but I don’t think it ruins the album that much. I wish the US itunes had the bonus track the Fallen, but the album is great nonetheless.

The more I listen to this album the more I love it. Tony, Geezer, and Bill really bring the energy on this album. There's some really interesting tempo changes. I just love the guitar riffs, bass riffs, and drums on this thing. Ian Gillan's vocals introduce a compelling new layer to the Sabbath dynamic and at times sounds genuinely menacing on this album. (see Disturbing the Priest) Crank the track Born Again and try to tell yourself it doesn't belong on the list of all time greatest rock/metal lists. This really is a sleeper album in the Sabbath catalog.

The first time I heard this, it was in the way early hours one morning at a party. The party was filled with albums by Judas Priest, Ac/Dc, Motley Crue and a lot of other hard rock bands. I knew every song word for word which was surprising for the host of the party given this music from his gen & not mine, and I was teenager who loved this kind of music which their eyes was rare. This was the last album played, as a test to see whether I knew it. They never told me who the band was until the album was finished. When they told me who it was it blew my mind, this was a different Sabbath . It still amazes me how a band that has had so many different singers could reinvent themselves so many times, and prove that they can continue to create relevant music even with the revolving members. Still a fantastic album with every listen. Makes me wish Ian Gillin would have had another album with the band. Guys give it a chance don’t let your love for past incarnations of the band blind your judgement, it’s just good music.

I remember hearing this for the first time and the impact I felt then has only been confirmed with time. Everyone loves the Ozzy Sabbath, even though the Dio years were less uneven. When Dio lef tto go solo again, I was crushed. But I could never have imagined that this album was coming. Zero the Hero is one of the top ten Sabbath tunes of all time. Enjoy!

This is the first unintentionally funny Black Sabbath album, from the front cover, the picture of Ian Gillan on the back cover to Gillan’s lyrics. The mix is crap, of course, with too much keyboards and bass and crappy sounding drums. All that aside, I really do like the album and think that it sounds more like old Black Sabbath than the Dio albums. It’s a very charming album, probably because of it’s shortcomings. Gillan is in very good vocal form here, even though I think he screams too much. My two favorite songs are Zero The Hero and Keep It Warm. A good album, really.

Awful production, noise pollution-filled uninspiring songs. I bought this when it came out in 1983 and found it disappointing back then. 33 years later at age 50 it remains such a wasted effort from the Iommi/Gillan collaboration. "Disturbing the Peace" would have been an aptly named sky title.

Great, dark album that was ruined by horrible engineering/recording, such as shame!

I never got it. The opening track is a good classic rocker. I couldn't get into any of the rest all that much. I thought it was a terrible album, all in all.
